The Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST), the UK based international sailing charity, will be visiting Whitby on August 20th and 21st, when one of its two tall ships, Lord Nelson, is alongside and open to the public. The Trust, set up over 30 years ago, provides sailing adventures which integrate able-bodied and physically disabled crews of amateur sailors under the guidance of professionals, aboard their two tall ships, Lord Nelson and Tenacious. These are the only tall ships in the world purpose-designed and built to enable able-bodied and physically disabled sailors to sail side by side as equals.
Lord Nelson will be berthed in Endeavour Quay (New Quay Road, near the Tourist Information Centre). There is no charge to come on board. JST volunteers will be happy to take visitors around the ship, showing them its tailor-made facilities and sharing their amazing experiences of tall ship sailing with the Trust. She will be open to the public:
Saturday August 20th 10.00-12.00 14.00-16.00
Sunday August 21st 10.00-12.00 14.00-16.00
The ships operate throughout the year in the UK, Europe, the Canaries and the Caribbean. Most voyages last between 4 and 12 days, but there are also a few day-sails. Voyages between the UK and the Caribbean/Canary Islands last 21-35 days. No previous sailing experience is required. Those sailing with the Trust for the first time may be eligible for bursary funding towards the cost of the voyage. Full details of all of the JST’s voyages are available at: www.jst.org.uk .

This will be a four-day event all around Whitby Abbey representing all things Gothic. It is focusing on all things to do with the 19th century by a group of performers.

This will encompass things like the latest developments scientifically courtesy of historic interpreting duo, Heuristics, to the fascination with funerals and undertakers that really came to the fore when Queen Victoria’s beloved husband Albert died and mourning became a very public event.

A victory hangman will be available standing over the gallows, but I wouldn’t get too close if I was you!

From noon to 3 PM each day the presentations will take place.
