A survey to see how important Whitby speeches to tourism will affect future grant money

Scarborough Council are going to be conducting a survey into our important the beach at Whitby is to visitors. It will be conducted between 30 May on 4 June and the results will signify how much grant funding will go forward to help carry out extensive coastal defence work in the future.

Every week there’s a picture competition run by Sheila on www.facebook.com/whitbyfans

The new picture is posted every Sunday night at 10 PM and you have to the following Saturday night at 10 PM to try to recognise the location in Whitby. The answer is given to that week’s competition at 10 PM Sunday along with the people got the answer correct that week. Why don’t you join in the competition and the Facebook page and become known to the rest of www.facebook.com/whitbyfans and make postings if there is any news happening in the area, there are also appreciated etc

If you do enter the guest Whitby picture competition could you not post your answers on Whitby fans page but send them directly to Sheila by going to her page and sending a direct message, that way it will give the answer way and will find out the correct answer and who got it right the following week.

Social membership is £1.00 per person. Membership is due august/september every year. It is very easy to become a member and when you are issued with your membership card then you can recieve discount at the bar. As Whitby Rugby Club is a private members club you must be a member to have a drink or use the club for any reason when alcohol is being served.
To become a member please see the bar for details.

Players membership!
We must be the cheapest place to play rugby. Players MUST pay their membership of £25.00 and £3.00 per match to have a vote at AGM & EGMs, to get discount at the bar, RFU standard insurance and any kit that we are sponsored with.

Whitby Golf Course is a fantastic holiday golf course with fantastic views of N Yorks Coast, run by PGA Professional offering expert tuition. The course is rarely too busy to be able to book a tee time.

There are wonderful views along the coast, north-westward over the picturesque bay of Sandsend to Kettleness, south-eastward over the harbour with the Abbey Ruins set in relief and inland over the rolling panorama of the North Yorks Moors.

It is the ideal type of holiday course, not too long or difficult for the moderate player provided a reasonable degree of accuracy is achieved.

“Wild hitters” can be severely punished, as some of the hazards are quite unusual. The most striking is the wild cleft in the Cliffs known as “Upgang Ravine” which has to be driven when playing the 6th and 18th holes

The degree of driving difficulty on many an occasion is decided by the prevailing wind which may come from either the North Sea or the moors.

Ode to Whitby Golf Club

On rugged cliff-tops facing north
Across the deep blue sea
Is Straggleton, a holy place
For golfers such as me

The rolling hills, Upgang Ravine
The White House Pub, Hotel
The ozone from the crashing waves
Cut grass, that heady smell

Through summer sun and winter snow
Through hailstones, rain and gales
Us golfers hit our dimpled balls
‘cross fairways hills and dales

And when our game is over
We’ll sit and have a beer
In the comfort of the nineteenth hole
With friendliness and cheer

We’ll talk of pars and birdies
And where we didn’t score
But one thing’s always certain
We’ll aye come back for more

Do you know what a ‘Tempest Prognosticator’ looks like and what it does?

The Society was established in 1823 and has around 800 members. It is one of the very few remaining Literary & Philosophical Societies that still runs an independent Museum, the older parts of which are often regarded as a ‘Museum within a Museum’ and have the atmosphere of an Edwardian Museum. The extension, opened in 2005, offers a costume gallery, temporary exhibition, lecture (Normanby) room and tearoom facilities.

There is plenty to interest all you web surfers, whether it is straight forward information about opening times or descriptions of our wide ranging and often unique collections.
